BCR Pond Outlet Works

Principal spillway, low-level drain and filter diaphragm through the dam at its tallest point. Drag to pan, wheel-drag or right-drag to turn, scroll to zoom; on a phone, drag to spin and pinch to zoom. Elevations are true to the plans; the dam is cut away so the pipe shows.

    How water moves through it

    Normal overflow

The pond fills to 7730 and spills over the riser rim (1), down the riser, out the stub (3), along the branch (4) into the wye (5), then under the dam in the main barrel (8) to the flared end (11).

    Draining the pond

Open the canal gate on the headwall (6). Water leaves at 7723.26, about 7 ft below the riser rim, and joins the same pipe at the wye.

    Seepage control

Water creeping along the outside of the pipe hits the sand diaphragm (9), which holds the soil back. The water drains out through the sand and gravel outlet (10) to the toe.

    Big floods

Above 7731 water goes over the emergency spillway at the west end, not through this pipe.
